Term 4 - Week 9

What an AWESOME week we have had in Room 16! On Monday we started the countdown to Christmas by putting up our Christmas Tree, which all the children are very excited about. We have lots of decorations but are planning to make even more for it next week. Here we are with the decorated tree:

On Wednesday we hopped on the bus and headed out to Rabbit Island. The weather was lovely and the children all had a great time. The tide was high when we first arrived so we spent some time in the picnic are playing lots of games. The parachute was a firm favourite.

After a quick bite to eat we headed for the beach. The children loved playing in the sand. Here are some of the things they did:
Isabelle buried herself.

Neve and Malachi played the Horseshoe Toss game.

Monique made a sand angel.
Hunter carrying out some serious construction.
Lots of children helped to build a sandcastle.

The boys were amazed by the 'crunchy' sand.

Here we all are going for a paddle. It was heaps of fun!
Then on Thursday we went for our first swim in the school pool. Although the water was chilly the day was hot so no one wanted to get out. We are looking forward to going swimming again next week so don't forget your togs.

Remember Sports Day on Tuesday. Hopefully we will see you all there.

Term 4 - Week 8

Well it has been another exciting week in Room 16, ending with our class running our very first assembly. Lots of the children decided they wanted to talk and they were very brave - getting up in front of the whole school and lots of parents. It was exciting using the microphones for the first time. Here are all the children waiting for their turn to speak:

We have also been doing some more practise for sports day. This week we practised the sack race and 3 legged race which is very tricky. The children had to work together, making sure they were stepping in time with their partner.
Patrick and Sid trying hard to stay and time.
Monique and Anna doing a super job of walking together.
On Thursday we welcomed More FM who put on a concert for us as part of the Big Give. Many thanks for those of you who brought along items which will be donated to the Fifeshire Foundation to help hose in need. There was lots of music and dancing and even a magic show which all the children enjoyed.

In class we have been doing lots of exciting things. Here is Zac with his spider which he planned and made after visiting the Art Exhibition at Broadgreen Intermediate:

This is an amazing Gears Machine made by Malachi, Siuila and Stirling who worked together, listening to and negotiating with each other:

We have also been busy playing number bingo. The children take turns being the caller and all love it when they have covered all their numbers and get to call out 'bingo'.

Two important events are happening next week. The first is our trip to Rabbit Island on Wednesday and the second is the Christmas Extravaganza on Sunday from 5pm. We hope to see you at one or both of these events.

Term 4 - Week 7

On Monday we were lucky enough to have some of the International Students from Nayland College come and visit us. They had been busy writing and illustrating their own picture books which they brought with them to read to us. They also answered our questions and told us all about their home country:

We have been busy practising for Athletics Sports which are next Thursday (3rd) - we hope you will be able to join us! This week we have been working on our throwing and it is harder than it looks. Here are the two we will be doing on Thursday:

Our sharing time was very interesting this week, there were lots of amazing things brought along. Among the items were Sid's Ironman costume that he made with his Mum and Malachi's game that we were allowed to play. Don't forget we have sharing every Wednesday.

We have been reading in lots of different ways lately. Here are some of the children reading to a buddy -  it is a great to have an audience for your story.

On Friday our friends from kindy came and we had a Tabloid Sports morning. It was great fun - a big thank you to Nathan from Nayland Kindy who set up all the activities for us:

Finally, a big congratulations to Siuila and Malachi who were Room 16's Stars of the Week. Well done!

Term 4 - Week 6

Hi all,

Well we have has another busy week in Room 16. This we began practicing for our Athletics Sports - we practised high jump and long jump. The children all did an amazing job considering it was their first ever attempt!

Trying to work out if we jump from the left or right side is not easy.
We also visited the Art Exhibition at Broadgreen Intermediate where we saw amazing work by some very talented artists. Here are all the children at the exhibition and a few children standing next to their favourite...

Zac was so inspired by the art work he saw he decided to make a spider of his own. He, along with a few other children have chosen to use paper mache to make an animal of their choice.
Here he is planning his animal.
Paper mache in action!

We hope to see you all at Awa and Whenua Syndicate athletics day on Thursday 3rd December. Have a great weekend.
