Term 4 - Week 7

On Monday we were lucky enough to have some of the International Students from Nayland College come and visit us. They had been busy writing and illustrating their own picture books which they brought with them to read to us. They also answered our questions and told us all about their home country:

We have been busy practising for Athletics Sports which are next Thursday (3rd) - we hope you will be able to join us! This week we have been working on our throwing and it is harder than it looks. Here are the two we will be doing on Thursday:

Our sharing time was very interesting this week, there were lots of amazing things brought along. Among the items were Sid's Ironman costume that he made with his Mum and Malachi's game that we were allowed to play. Don't forget we have sharing every Wednesday.

We have been reading in lots of different ways lately. Here are some of the children reading to a buddy -  it is a great to have an audience for your story.

On Friday our friends from kindy came and we had a Tabloid Sports morning. It was great fun - a big thank you to Nathan from Nayland Kindy who set up all the activities for us:

Finally, a big congratulations to Siuila and Malachi who were Room 16's Stars of the Week. Well done!

Term 4 - Week 6

Hi all,

Well we have has another busy week in Room 16. This we began practicing for our Athletics Sports - we practised high jump and long jump. The children all did an amazing job considering it was their first ever attempt!

Trying to work out if we jump from the left or right side is not easy.
We also visited the Art Exhibition at Broadgreen Intermediate where we saw amazing work by some very talented artists. Here are all the children at the exhibition and a few children standing next to their favourite...

Zac was so inspired by the art work he saw he decided to make a spider of his own. He, along with a few other children have chosen to use paper mache to make an animal of their choice.
Here he is planning his animal.
Paper mache in action!

We hope to see you all at Awa and Whenua Syndicate athletics day on Thursday 3rd December. Have a great weekend.

Term 4 - Week 4

Hi all, sorry for the lack of posts so far this term.  I can't believe we are nearly half way through the final term of the year already! In maths this week we have been working on the concept of addition, the children have been exploring this through different games and activities. Here is Malachi using the play dough to help him write an addition number sentence. He has put 4 fries on each plate and has 8 fries altogether.

We have been playing a number game using dice as well. In this game you roll two dice to make your number sentence and then add the dots to work at the answer. Siuila and Isabelle are doing a great job.

In PE we have been learning all about gymnastics. We now know how to forward roll safely and have got awesome jumping skills. For the first time this week we has a go on the beam and bars. We tried walking along the beam, firstly on flat feet, on then on tip toes. It was tricky to balance.

On the bars we were trying to do big swings. Dallas is a gymnastics expert so she was able to help us.
We also had our final tennis session with Suzanne on Monday, and as promised she brought the nets. It was great fun but very tricky trying to hit the ball over the net. The children should have brought home a letter about tennis lessons if they are interested in trying it again. We finished the session with a game of tennis ball tag.
