Term 2 - Week 5

Another week has flown by in Room 16 and we have welcomed another new student. Here is Isabelle who has had a super first week in Room 16.

The children were lucky enough to have 2 hockey sessions with coach Scotty this week. They played lots of fun games and he showed us the 'Hockey Haka'. Here are some photos of the class in action.

Every playtime and lunchtime children seen doing something helpful such as picking up rubbish or playing nicely are given a juicy ticket. The tickets go into a draw and 2 lucky children from each syndicate whose names are drawn out are given a free juicy. This week Alena was one of the lucky winners from Whenua syndicate, so here she is enjoying her juicy.
Some of our superstars in Room 16 have already completed their sticker charts. Here they are looking really proud.

Once again the children were busy in Discovery Time on Friday. Some children used the cubes to make really tall towers - they were even taller than the children. Other things they did were putting on a puppet show or helping to build a hut out of some old boxes.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and don't forget cross country is on Wednesday morning. Hopefully we will see you all there.

Term 2 - Week 4

Week 4 already, it feels as though the term is flying by! We welcomed Sam who joined us on Thursday. Here he is looking really proud to be starting school:

Once again we have been busy learning lots of new things. For the next few weeks our topic is Creative Play Spaces and we aim to design a new play space for the school by the end of the unit. The new play space is going to be here outside Room 8.

On Wednesday we visited Nayland Kindy and had a lovely time. The children used the ipads to take photos of all the things they liked in the outdoor space at the kindy and we already have some great ideas of new things we would like at school.

As part of our number work we are seeing how quickly we can order numbers. Everyone had a different number and it only took the children 1 minute and 15 seconds to get themselves into the correct order. Next week we are going to see if we can do it even faster.

We have also been busy playing lots of number games. Here are some of the children with caterpillars. They had to give each caterpillar the correct number of legs. All the children checked their caterpillar really carefully to make sure the number of legs was correct.

Every week, usually on a Friday morning we have Discovery Time. During this time the children are encouraged to work one of our key competencies, this week we were focusing on relating to others with an emphasis on sharing and turn taking.

In these photos the children are busy taking turns while playing the games.

Finally our Star of the Week this week was Monique. She has been working super hard at home trying to learn all her pink words. Here she is with her certificate, well done Monique.

Term 2 - Week 3

Our class is growing, we have had 4 new students join us this week. Here are Ajay, Lydia, Zac and Sid. Welcome to Room 16, we are so glad you have joined us.

This week we have spent a lot of time working on our 'Trash to Flash' projects. The Whenua syndicate worked together to flash up Mrs Smith's old chest of drawers. We have turned them into a Creative Chest. They are filled with exciting art equipment and will be outside Room 16 every lunchtime so the children can create masterpieces after they have eaten their lunch.

We also flashed up an old item of clothing. Here we are in the classroom and at the parade during assembly.

We have been working hard to learn the sounds k, e, h and r. The children should be able to tell their parents lots of words that begin with these sounds. Have you seen the whiteboards in our class window with our amazing writing on them? If not, make sure you take a look every day after school. The children are going to be tested on their pink words next week, so make sure you are practising everyday.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mums on Sunday. The children have made something special for you, so if they forget to give it to you on Sunday please remind them.
