Term 3 - Week 1

It sounds like everyone in Room 16 had a super holiday. Some children were even lucky enough to go away over the break. We welcomed two new students to Room 16 this week, Nykita and Neve. Here they are on their first day at school:

I am very proud of both Nykita and Neve who have settled into school so well it is like they have always been here. Also, a big shout out to the rest of Room 16 who have welcomed them and are looking after them at playtime and lunchtime.

This term our topic focus is science, so for the next few weeks we are going to be finding out about dinosaurs. The children already have some amazing knowledge and are enjoying researching answers to all their questions. We have got lots of dinosaur books and model dinosaurs in our classroom.

In maths we are continuing our number work. The children learnt how to play dominoes. They played really well together taking turns to match the dot patterns.

For sharing on Wednesday Alena brought along a very special letter from the Tooth Fairy. Over the holidays Alena lost her first tooth. She put it under her pillow for the Tooth Fairy who left her the letter and some money. Wasn't she lucky!

We finally got to have our outside discovery time that we has planned for at the end of last term. The children were very busy. Here Monique is digging in the sandpit trying to find dinosaurs.

Alena and Lyla are working together to make the see-saw go up and down.

Decklan and Mason made this amazing dinosaur skeleton.
Finally, our stars of the week were Ajay and Anna. Ajay has been working hard to learn all his Keyring Words and Anna is trying very hard with her writing. I forgot to take a photo of them with their certificates unfortunately.

Have a great weekend everyone and I will see you all on Monday.

Term 2 - Week 11

Wow, the term has ended and the holidays have begun. It has been a great term and the children should all feel very proud of their excellent learning.

This week Room 16 finally got to visit kindy again and we took with us the book we wrote for the children that are nearly ready to start school. It is called 'Something You Should Know About School' and each child wrote a page with some information about Nayland Primary. Here of some photos of the children reading the book to the children at kindy:

The kindy kindly gifted us some bikes for the children to play on. We were hoping to try them out during Discovery Time today but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate so we will have to try again next term.

We read 'The Gingerbread Boy' story on Thursday and with the help of Ajay's Mum made and decorated our own gingerbread men. Here are some photos of the children in action:

We also had a chance to look at all the playground designs the children throughout the school have come up with for the space outside the MPLC. There were some amazing designs and Mrs Gulbransen will have a very difficult time choosing which one we should use. The children in the photos below are standing next to the design they like the best.

Congratulations to Ajay, Zac and Anna who have managed to fill their sticker charts. Here they are with their charts:

A a huge congratulations to Malachi who came second in Awa and Whenua's Got Talent. He performed some amazing dance moves to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Here he is showing us his moves and with his certificate:

Finally, have a great holiday everyone and I will see you all again in two weeks time.
