Term 4 - Week 2

We have been lucky this week in Room 16 to have lots of visitors. On Friday Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese came to our assembly to present Nayland Primary with the Supreme Award for the Mask Parade. She came with some exciting news that she would like some Nayland students to dress up in their costumes to show Prince Charles and Camilla when they visit Nelson. I wonder who the lucky children will be. Here she is at our assembly:

Suzanne from Tahunanui Tennis visited us and took us for a tennis lesson. The children did lots of different activities including balancing the ball on the racquet and play a game called 'Squash the Bug'. It was lots of fun and the children all learnt lots. If you want to know more about about the tennis session come and read some of our amazing writing about it.

In PE we are doing gymnastics for the next few weeks. We have been learning how to do a forward roll safely among other things. Here are some of the children practising their jumping. We are trying to jump high off the box.

In class we have been reviewing our phonics for the last 2 weeks. The children have all been making amazing progress and know nearly all their sounds. Our letter of the week was 'd' and we made duck puppets to take home. They looked amazing and the children were all very proud. In maths we are continuing our number work - learning numbers before and after and number patterns.

Our third set of visitors for the week were dance teachers who came and taught us a very cool dance - one of them was even an ex pupil of Nayland Primary! Hopefully they will be back again next year to teach us some more moves.

I hope you all having a lovely long weekend and will be back ready for a short week on Wednesday.
