Term 3 - Week 2

Kia Ora,

This week was Māori Language Week. The children have been learning a range of greetings in Māori, particularly:

Tēnā koe  (Hello to you – 1 person)
Tēnā kōrua  (Hello to you two – 2 people)
Tēnā koutou  (Hello to you – 3 or more people)
Have any of the children been using these greetings at home?
On Monday we were lucky enough to have Mr McLennan, a Science teacher at Nayland College, come and show us some science experiments and Cohen and Ajay even got to be his helpers. Here he is in action:

A special thanks to Cohen's Mum who bought us some dinosaur eggs that have been hatching in the classroom this week. The children have been very excited watching the eggs crack and the dinosaurs grow. Here is Sam showing what the egg looked like before we put it in water. You will have to come into the class if you what to see the dinosaurs now.

The children also did some excellent work grouping dinosaurs. Working together in pairs, using pictures, they came up with their own categories. Here are Nykita and Monique (Plates and No Plates) and Sid and Ajay (Plant Eater and Meat Eater).

Finally, we have to say both tēnā kuotou and haere rā to Peter, Max and Rory. They joined our class this week but will be joining Mrs Somerville in Room 6 next week.
