Term 2 - Week 9

Another week has gone by and another new face has joined Room 16. This week we welcomed Skyla who has had made an excellent start to school.

As our class grows we have been exploring ways to share our news so that everybody gets a turn to talk. On Monday we tried 'doughnut news'. We had two circles of children, one on the inside and one on the outside. The children took turns sharing their news with their partner who was sitting opposite them. After a few minutes the children sitting in the outside circle moved round so they got to share their news with someone different. It worked really well and the children had lots of interesting things to tell their friend.

Friday was a really exciting day in Room 16. We watched the amazing show Jumping Jack Flash this morning. It was based on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk with a recycling these as well. The children participated enthusiastically as members of the audience. Below are some photos from the show, see if your child can tell you what is happening in each of the pictures.

We also made some amazing salt dough stars today to help celebrate Matariki. They were easy to make, we just used flour, salt and water to make the dough then cooked them in the microwave. After less than 2 minutes cooking they were ready to paint. The plan was to put them on display in the classroom, but the children loved them so much they couldn't wait to take them home. Here they all are hard at work making their stars:

Have a lovely weekend everyone and I will see you all on Monday.
